The multi-million-dollar day surgery development at the Royston Hospital campus is on track to open for private elective orthopaedic day surgery procedures before the end of 2021.
The Royston Day Surgery, a joint venture between Evolution Healthcare and the Hawke’s Bay Orthopaedic Group is a significant investment for the region. Through advances in surgical techniques, more and more procedures are becoming available for day stay surgery, increasing access to care and facilitating faster recovery.
The purpose-built day stay facility includes two fully digital theatres, four recovery beds, and six second stage recovery bays. Through the use of advanced surgical techniques, many surgical procedures will now allow people to return home on the day of the procedure.
Sue Channon, Evolution Healthcare’s Chief Executive Officer, and Simon Johnson, Royston Day Surgery Director and Orthopaedic Surgeon said “The Royston Campus has supported the community of Hawkes Bay for over 100 years with private healthcare services and capacity support for the public hospital. We are pleased to be able to continue the expansion of our services with a standalone dedicated day surgery facility”.
